Un-mundane Mondays – Part: IV

Another Monday dawns upon us, so does another week of work and studies. Let’s take a little break and take a look at some beauties to refresh our week and perhaps beat the “blues”. No prizes though for guessing the location I am talking about, in this post.

Where

Paris,  Île-de-France, the Capital of France, also known as the City of Lights or the City of Love or the Fashion Capital of the World. Despite the heavy touristy crowds, I must admit that the City does have its own charm – and it does feel like “Love is in the air” over here.

What

Perhaps the ambiance of Paris plays a big role in invoking romantic feelings.

I, however, fell in love with the beauties shown in the photograph above.

I didn’t know who they were, so I had to ask Google to tell me the name of these white-and-pink beauties.

Turns out, Google couldn’t make my job easier.

These flowers belong to the family Geraniaceae which contain several closely related genera, including the two famous ones: Geranium (or true geranium genus) and Pelargonium (another common and closely related genus).

My searches however threw up these four close contenders which might be the true name of these flowers. These may include hybrids as well (hybrids contain the letter x between two separate names as per the Scientific nomenclature). Maybe these flowers are hybrids. Maybe not.

  • Pelargonium zonale
  • Pelargonium x hortorum
  • Pelargonium vitifolium
  • Pelargonium x domesticum

Some of the plants (not all though) belonging to the genera Geranium and Pelargonium find some uses in:

  • Essential Oils
  • Aromatherapy
  • Cosmetics like lotions, creams
  • Medicines for treating some respiratory diseases like bronchitis, cold, cough, sore throat, sinusitis, pharyngitis etc.

Some species of these genera however may be toxic. Hence, touching these beauties or consuming them should strictly be avoided unless deemed safe to do so by Doctors.

Do you know what these beautiful flowers are? What is their actual name? Do let me know in the comments below so that the same can be updated.

Hope you liked these flowers and are intrigued by them.

Traveling should include experiencing the beauty of a place to the maximum possible extent. And more often than not, such beauties lie in places which are away from the conventional biggies.

Of course, the charm of the Eiffel Tower can never be ignored. But the real beauty or the romantic allure of Paris lies in it’s classical streets, it’s gardens and it’s lovely flowers.

Looking forward to interacting more with you and “Make Mondays un-mundane”..

Cheers..!!

I am glad you liked this small virtual trip to Paris. Though viewing things on the Internet is easy, yet, traveling to a place physically lets on discover far more than the Internet can ever offer.. 😊😊

    1. Good morning Anushka.. ☺️
Thank you for your enthusiastic comment yet again.. ☺️🤗

Yes, Paris is the city of Love, and perhaps the beauties like these make one fall in love with the city.. ♥️

Eiffel Tower is no doubt charming but in reality, I didn’t feel that much attracted towards it.. A part of it may be attributed to the humongous and stubborn crowd, which is quite cringeworthy for me.. I loved the walks along the Seinne though, which to me, evokes more romantic feelings than the Eiffel Tower itself. I suggest you do that when you are in Paris.. ☺️

Thank you once again Anushka.. ☺️
      Glad you loved it.. 🤗

      1. I’ll definitely go ..Seinne..as you have suggested me💙
And I don’t know..the real picture of Eiffle tower that how it looks in reality..but if you say..you didn’t got those vibes..then it can be.!! The main reason could be the crowd of that place.
Because I too don’t like being in crowded place.
Pleasure is all mine Abir in reading your blogs..!!

        1. See, Anushka, I for sure don’t like to spend my money on a crowded place. That’s a fact. Others may do so for selfies or stuff, but to me, traveling should be an activity to rejuvenate, learn and relax, and not get stuck up in crowds..

Don’t get me wrong, the Eiffel Tower looks beautiful.. But there 100 different spots from where you can view it’s beauty.. It doesn’t need to be the exact Eiffel Tower Park.. ☺️

I’ll definitely see this link…give me some time.. I’ll revert back to you on this shortly..!!

Yeah..I am doing good Abir…thank you for asking.
This lockdown is good with me…I have found so much of time to work on myself.. learning new things… reading… watching movies…. spending time with family..what can be more good than this.

  3. Yes, I agree Paris is more than Eiffel Tower. I have never been there. Classical Streets surely lure me.

The flowers are so beautiful. They definitely belong to the Geranium family. I am not sure but may be you can try searching ‘Veronica Contreras’ (Pelargonium x hortorum). This might be the closest.

    1. Paris is much more than the Eiffel Tower or Arch de Triomphe.. Do you know that it houses the Twin of the Statue of Liberty????

For getting a feel of the classic, I would recommend Italy. Parisian streets are classic though, but nothing beats Italy in that regard.

Thank you Madam for the inputs.. 😊😊
Yes, I saw Pelargonium x hortorum as well, though I am not yet convinced.. The cause of confusion is compounded when I see the colours (supposedly?) varying even in the same species.

Thank you Madam for your efforts and reading the article in detail.. 😊😊 Highly appreciate the enthusiasm.. 😊😊

      1. Yes, I agree. Italian streets are classier.

The colors may vary but I assume the structure of the flower is the same? Not sure. Anyway, I hope someone give you exact information on the same.

Thank you for sharing. 🙂 Good Night!
