Un-mundane Mondays – Part: X

A week and a day has gone by since the Summer Solstice. A new week and a new Monday now dawns upon us, bringing certainty of shorter days, colder weather and thus causing a significant reduction in the “blues” quotient. This post will however add a “blue” though and I hope you won’t be disappointed with it.

The name of this blue-beauty literally means the future.

Please meet the Toyota Mirai car showcased in the Auto Expo 2016 Motor show held in Greater Noida.

The Auto Expo is the Largest Motor Show in India and is ranked among the major ones held globally. The Auto Expo is a biennial event where major automotive manufacturers from round the globe come here to showcase their technological advancements to the people and try to make the world a better, cleaner and greener place to live in.

Mirai in Japanese means Future.

And I must say, it’s quite apt a name for this car. Why do I say so? Let me explain the reasons for the same.

• Future: As this car is powered by Hydrogen. Yes, you heard that right. And there are no prizes to guess that the pollutants emanating from a Hydrogen car is Zero.
• Future: As Hydrogen addresses the twin hurdles of electric cars, namely:
  • Longer Charging Time
  • Lower Range

The 2016 Mirai could travel for 500+ km on a full tank, which is way above the range of many electric cars even today. Its performance is exemplary as well. The Mirai produces 152 HP power and 335 Nm of torque which can put many diesel or petrol powered SUVs to shame.

As of now, the only drawback of Hydrogen lies in its generation process. Like electricity, the hydrogen generated as on date consumes power generated by burning fossil fuels.

Tarry a little, friend. Don’t lose hope.

As I said in one of my previous posts, massive projects worth Billions of Dollars are being spent these days to promote a green economic recovery involving Green Hydrogen, which is actually Hydrogen produced through power generated from renewable sources like Solar, Geothermal, Hydel, Wind or even Wastes. Countries like USA, EU, UK, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Singapore and many more are going aggressive over its implementation as we speak.

Green Hydrogen is slated to become the fuel of the Future. And in my opinion, Mirai, meaning Future, fits the bill quite well.
