Un-mundane Mondays – Part: I

In this part of the series, I shall post about a strange flower I encountered during my trip a few years ago.

Photograph

Where

Kanyakumari (Tamil Nadu State, India)

Kanyakumari is a picturesque and historical place full of great beaches and hills, located in the Southernmost point of Peninsular India.

What

This flower looked very beautiful. Interestingly though, I didn’t know about it.

A series of Google Image searches for this flower yielded the closest possible match as Lantana calippo.

Lantana calippo is a relatively easy to grow shrub found in many parts of India. It’s flowers are yellow or orange in colour. Insects like bees and butterflies often flock around these flowers for nectar. The plant or its flowers or fruits may be toxic for humans, and should not be ingested without seeking permission from professional medical practitioners.

The other close candidate for this flower is Lantana camara.

Which of these do you think is the flower posted here? Do share your thoughts in the comment section below so that the corrections may be subsequently incorporated.

UPDATE – 1:

As suggested by Ms. Nanchi (https://nanchi.blog/), the flowers shown in this picture are actually Ixora chinensis (Commonly known as Prince of Orange) or Ixora coccinea (Commonly known as Jungle Flame). Both these species of the genus Ixora appear quite similar.

Thank you for providing the correction.

Hope you liked this flower and this photograph and are intrigued to know more about it. Looking forward to interacting more with you and “Make Mondays un-mundane”..

Cheers..!!

    1. This is so relatable. I liked making garlands from flowers when I was very young, only to leave that work as I found flowers on plants more appealing than flowers in garlands.. 😊😊
You are welcome Madam and thank you for taking the time to read this post and share your thoughts.. 😊😊

    1. Thank you immensely Anushka for nominating me for the award..!! I shall check that for sure.. 😊🤗
Humbled to know that my blog was able to have a good impact on you and you remembered it.. 😊
I would however have to decline this as it would be unfair on my part to pick and choose some of my followers as my nominations. I consider all of them to be great.. 😊
Hope you understand..!! Thank you once again.. 😊

      1. It’s ok Abir..

        And you deserved it though.😊

Bdw you can nominate all your bloggers…😊
By saying…my nomination goes to all..

I have nominated few… because these are some of my personal favourites. And I’ll love to know about them more.

        1. Well, I could do that.. 😊🤗
But nominating all would defeat the purpose of the award and nominating a few would be a violation of my principles..!!
But again, I am honoured that you chose me for the award.. 😊
I will be more honoured if you continue to interact more and exchange your thoughts, ideas or comments on my posts..!! It would be more rewarding for me to know a different perspective, get some inspiration or learn a few things myself.. 😊🤗

Yes, insects might swarm around flowers like these, but thankfully, I didn't have to encounter any while I was near this beauty..!! 😉

  2. Hi Abir,

The flowers are really beautiful but the image seems to be bit unclear. Though it gives a visually similar strike to Lantana Calippo but they are not. As per my knowledge mostly it is Ixora Chinensis Prince of Orange commonly called as Jungle Flame or Flame of the Woods. You can search and find similar images. 🙂

    1. Thank you Madam for checking the picture and commenting.
Yes, the picture is quite unclear. It was taken in 2016 using a primitive cellphone, which may explain it. I shall now check about Ixora Chinensis.. 😊
Thank you once again..!! Glad you liked it.. 😊

        1. Adorabile sapere che Benedetta. Mi hai rubato i pensieri .. !!
