If you love someone, set him / her free.
Sounds cliche and quite common, isn’t it? Who would be unaware of this (or similar worded) saying?
But what if that “someone” in the question is none other than you yourself?
Let me, however, offer a slightly different treatment to the given phrase, or the title, and show you the views through a slightly different lens. Perhaps, you will like the views. Perhaps, you won’t. But it’s worth a try, isn’t it? Who knows, maybe this lens turns out to be a bit clearer.
Let it go
If it doesn’t come back, it was never yours
Or, thus have you been told
Let it go
Let the past teach you, but don’t you hold it back
An artifact so heavy, doesn’t grace your bejeweled bag
As onward to your future, valiantly you march
Let it go
Give it some space
An unhindered path for it, thou shal’t pave
Before every evil wall, by the hammer of dreams, razed
A free space of clear thoughts for the swing, must first be made
Let your dreams soar
Do not try to be a bore
The society, as you say, may be “an object” of your blame
But prithee, tell, can it not be a mere facade, a farce, a soulless face?
Are you sure “you” are not a part of the same?
Let it go
Think not what will the people say
But ponder upon what will you, to your very own soul, say
For dreams unfulfilled by your own accord, the clinging despair
Right on the Judgement day
The waters may be uncharted
The terrains, uncertain
Dangers might be lurking at bay
Did the great Columbus or the mighty Vikings of the yore
Ever colonize their minds with such a lore?
The Earth is flat, your ships will eventually fall
Omnipresent were tales of that sort, reigning loud and tall
Did not Magellan dream
To find out how the world “beyond the horizon” feels?
In “mythical” lands, far far away, they say
In lands of ice and Castles of white, ’tis told that fairies stay
Don’t you want to ever dream, to verily behold
Such magical lands glitter and gleam, the sights nothing less than pure gold?
Stupendous it seems. But know the hazards before
For the path is filled with cold and icy trolls
No known one ever went there. Hardships you may face untold
Prithee, tell me, in the age of iron horses and paperless mail
Can you not atleast be informed of such “trolls” who may pose a threat?
Let your apprehensions go
And tightly should you your aspirations hold
Embark on a journey via twisting paths untold
Travel through the hedges, nay, meet the icy trolls
Take stock and prepare, go find knowledge in the digital scrolls
The “Mjolnir” of information shall raze the evil walls of doubts as you roll
From the bubble of the comfort zone, thou shal’t move beyond
And with the unexplored cultures and people, thou shalt seamlessly bond
See new sights, experience magical moments untold
As thou take’th the Iron Horse, over, sideways and under, ‘cross the Øresund to Helsingborg
The Dream Castles of Ice await you
As do the idyllic roads of Torino
You, however, have to let your doubts go
And to your fear or hesitation, you shall say an everlasting no
Let your doubts or fears go. Ensure they never return
Memories worth cherishing a lifetime, thou shal’t attempt to earn.
Sometimes, the society and peers are merely an excuse for us to stop trying for what we want to do. Sometimes, the demons lie within us, as do the will to eliminate the demons within.
Dream on, unleash the “Avengers” within, make efforts and travel more..!!

Precisely, Madam. It is never easy. But certain things have to be left out and let go for one’s own betterment. That list however may vary from person to person.

Letting go is the only way to be happy.

Well, that is subjective.. Letting go should not imply letting go the efforts and hope, but letting go the doubts and excuses.. If that is followed, happiness is bound to come to the individual, sooner or later..
Thank you for paying a visit to my blog and sharing your thoughts.. 😊

Nice one. Loved reading it. One must always be true to ourselves. There are many times the logical mind and heart, often the mind is cloud the judgement, society often tries to put you in boxes ( speaking from experience, not re travel), see through the eyes of heart, you always find your true-self. I also understand travel is not everyone s cup of tea, but I guess the idea is to take a journey. A journey to find yourself, perhaps it’s such a walk to park nearby, or it is in a book or, in words, in creating or simply being you. Great post.

Thank you so much Madam for sharing your profound thoughts.. 😊
“One must be true to himself / herself” – Undoubtedly and unquestionably true.
“Society tries to put you in boxes” – Very much true. That’s its job, don’t you think? 😂 However, it is you who shall be responsible for pulling yourself out of such boxes if they appear stinky to you. My point being here is to be unapologetic about disagreement. Humans are different, they aren’t robots fitting into a finite number of boxes, as per the “programmes” fed by the society, isn’t it?
“Idea is to take a journey – to find yourself” Absolutely. Shouldn’t that be the objective instead of a conscious or subconscious check box activity?
Thank you so much for sharing such a thought provoking comment.. Glad that you loved it.. 😊

I tried to portray a different meaning to “Letting it go”, the one which doesn’t mean surrender, but should mean “taking back the control of your life”.. have highlighted the travel part of it.. Glad you could feel the urge to travel and explore more.. Wish you the very Best for the same.. ☺️

I enjoyed the “taking back” perspective so much! I can never hold what I want without dropping things that keep me bolted down. Travel indeed keeps me “less boring”? ☺️

Wow, wonderful poem and words of insight!
I’ve heard too many times from too many people reasons for not travelling. I think that society conditions us to get on the mortgage bandwagon and work for life to pay everything off….then, there’s consumerism. It seems that these days, people can’t go without – always wanting the newest and best of everything. I spend my money travelling and experiences. Others spend money on materialistic things – we’re all different (thank goodness!).

You are spot on Madam. Consumerism is a major excuse over here. What’s the use of the latest version of a phone which will drill a large hole in the pocket, but will become obsolete a few months down the line?
I don’t like that (despite several “millennials” going exactly for increased consumerism).
Cheers to us then..!! 😀

So inspiring Abirbhav. I’m going to ‘unleash the avengers,’ and ‘let it go.’ Thank you for putting it all together. Reading the same thing in different words hammered the idea in which is exactly what some of us need 🙂

Well, that’s the point, isn’t it? “Let go” of your doubts or fears and thereby, unleash the inner “Avenger” in you.. 😊
We need to pick up the “Mjolnir” of clarity in thoughts to help smash our “cocoons” and guide our way forward. Thank you so much Madam for your kind words and elated that you found it “inspiring”.. 😊

Rightly said. Let it go sometimes means surrender, sometimes it means just leave. Leave the past after learning. Leave your fears so that you may March ahead. Leave your doubts so that you may even travel to uncharted territories.. ☺️

It has indeed become very important to free ourselves from social constraints.. what is good is good, but what isn’t must be dealt with and changed! and that requires freedom..

Thank you so much Rujuta for your comment.. 🙂 Agree with what you said..
The first step towards Freedom comes from within. If one is ready to make the effort and let go of his / her apprehensions, then I believe dealing with societal pressures becomes relatively easy.
