Un-mundane Mondays – Part: VIII

A New Monday has come, heralding the start of a new week full of joys, happiness and a few “blues”. Let’s hope this post helps remove some of those “blues”.

This post will not contain anything informative, knowledgeable, scientific, historical or any such content. This post will however contain something (or things) which are quite dear to me. I hope that as you read on, you will definitely shed some of the Monday blues for sure.

Where

Moscow, the Capital of Russia..

The city needs no introduction. Moscow is the largest and the most populous city in entire Europe. The city is located on the banks of its namesake river – Moskva. The architecture of Moscow speaks volumes of the elegance and finesse of Russian Architecture down to its last detail – spanning from the Renaissance aged baroque buildings to Modern and Futuristic Buildings themed around the Russian architecture of yore. Moscow has been serving as the Capital of Russia since 1283 CE during the times of the Grand Duchy of Moscow, which evolved into the Tsardom of Russia, the Russian Empire, USSR and the Russian Federation (The Russian Capital was St. Petersburg during a 200 year hiatus from 1713 CE to 1918 CE). Moscow is one of the fastest growing tourism destinations in Europe with a World Class Infrastructure to comfortably accommodate the tourist influx.

What

To many of you, this video might seem quite trivial and insignificant – after all it shows only some snowfall, doesn’t it? You might be seeing that on a regular basis during the winter months in your respective places, if applicable.

I would however beg to differ, because of some reasons.

First of all, this was the first snowfall I saw in my entire life. I did see snow though in the Himalayas and a severe blizzard there before, but that’s not snowfall. That’s either snow which fell and accumulated. Or that’s a storm worth escaping from. There is an odd satisfaction achieved when one looks at these tiny, miniature perfectly hexagonal crystals of frozen water created with absolute perfection and love from Nature. Isn’t it worthy of attention, awe and praise? And adding sauce to tomato, I was in a country where even the interiors of a seemingly mundane or nugatory Metro Station were adorned with fine sculptures and art works which can make a lot of magnificent and intricately designed Palaces run for their money.

Secondly, in the age of rampant global warming, sights and scenes like these are becoming rarer by the day. In the late 2019, Moscow didn’t receive snowfall – the same snowfall or cold which might even be a subject of disdain for many. Hence, this post is about conserving the Winters, appreciating their beauty and enhancing their duration and strength by doing whatever good we can do to help protect the environment and enjoy sights like these more often.

Thirdly, in June 2020, the World celebrates the 75th Anniversary of the end of Second World War – resulting in a defeat of the forces of Evil and a victory of the Good. Russia also celebrated the Russia Day this month on June 12, marking the creation of Russian Federation as the successor of the USSR. 75 years from 1945 CE, the World faces another enemy – one which possesses no guns or tanks and is not interested in tyranny, oppression or persecution, but annihilation.

Scenes or videos like these, to me, denote hope.

Despite the scorching heat of Global Warming, Nature still provides an Icy respite..

Despite global hysteria over the invisible enemy, we do see unprecedented co-operation in defeating this enemy..

It did take a virus though to bring in some sense into humans. Keeping the global co-operation in the medical field aside, we have several countries who have woken up to the dangers of global warming and have started a massive investment drive towards green and renewable power projects. A slew of mega environmental projects worth Trillions of Dollars are underway in Europe, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea and even the USA to help go forward with a “Green Economic Recovery” post the pandemic. It’s fast and it’s very very real.

Fourth, Russia occupies a very special place in my heart. It’s a land where Magic reigns supreme, which is evident during the ice cold winters. Naturally, for a chionophile like me, Russia is the place to be – especially during my Birthday which falls during December. I spent my 30th Birthday in the Russian Arctic amidst the celestial Auroras and Polar Nights..!! Sights, scenes like these and the harsh cold weather are compelling reasons to fall in love with Russia over and over again. You may click here to read about my post chronicling the same.

No story is ever complete without the defeat of the Evil. And the day will soon come when the pandemic and global inferno will be things of the past, with such white dreamscapes and icy weather being more of a norm than an exception across the world..

  1. Wonderful post, and a very thoughtful one as well. Isn’t nature so amazing, and if think of of little speck of white falling from the sky. I find snow so magical and to be in Moscow. I remember going Russian book fairs when I was in school. I still have some of the fairy tale books which I bought from there and indeed they made Russia a very magical place. Hoping we come out of the pandemic with a great deal of learning.

      I agree wholeheartedly, nature indeed is amazing and amazing itself is an understatement when it comes to these little white specs of snowfall or huge chunks of ice lying scattered here and there.. 😊❄️

  8. This is such a positive post, full of hope and joy. And yes, the white dreamscapes and perfectly hexagonal pieces of ice are a source of divine pleasure for chionophiles like yourself. It is important to conserve the snow capped mountains and glaciers, especially when the world is threatened by global warming, in order to maintain the balance of the ecosystem.
